The Benefits of Hiring a Trainer
You don't have to be a celebrity or an athlete to reap the benefits of hiring a personal trainer. More and more people, novice and veteran exercisers alike, are working with personal trainers because they offer a practical and affordable means of getting and staying healthy.

The Benefits

The older we get, the more important it is to maintain a physically active lifestyle. Regular moderate exercise can delay some of the physical deterioration that occurs with aging or sedentary living. For example, regular physical activity can help you:

Just came across some great advice from one of my favorite natural news sites.

NaturalNews Tip of the day (from Mike):

When you’re shopping for food at the grocery store, remember you are what you eat. Think of your grocery cart as an extension of your digestive tract, and remember that everything you put into your cart will eventually end up inside your body where it touches your intestinal walls and gets absorbed into your bloodstream. From there, it’s circulated to your brain, heart, liver and other organs. For each item you place in your shopping cart, ask yourself, “Do I really want that inside my body?”

How about adding.” How will I feel after I eat it!”

The number one tip I can give my clients to help them maintain or lose weight is to start controlling the amount of insulin that is released through out the day.

You can do this by taking a TBLS of oil within 15 minutes of opening your eyes in the morning. You may use Cod liver oil, Olive oil, Sunflower oil, or Canola oil. Then you must eat within 30 minutes upon waking. Try to eat at least 25 grams of protein with some berries and/or vegetables.

It does not count if you lie in bed! You must get the oil and protein in within the timely matter.

Most of our clients follow this suggestion and find their energy is better, they do not crave sugar, and their blood sugar does not drop as fast/often throughout the day.

Blood sugar dropping = weight gain

Trainer Kim was moving to a new home over the weekend and did not have your oil in the morning and felt some of the negative consequence of not having her oil. Her blood sugar took a severe drop and she ended up with the “shakes”. (Concerned her kids and her mom)

Give it a try and let us know!!!

Did not have much time to spend on my workout today so this is the workout I did!

30 second work time
25 second rest (getting old……need more rest time)

  • Push ups (modified since I still cannot bend my big toe)
  • Kettle bell swings
  • SB. Hip Tuck (or stomach roll- ins…so many names!)
  • Total Gym Pull ups
  • AB Sling – Hanging knee raises

Rest 3 minutes. (Started cleaning… got carried away.)
Repeat.

Rest 3 minutes. (Truth is, I needed the rest.)
Repeat.

DONE.

Stretched in our new Tru Stretch.

Total time 20- 30 minutes.

Anyway, it was a great workout! Worked up a sweat and got my heart rate up!

Is your workout “Green”?

Earth Day is April 22nd

Can you imagine how much energy we could conserve if everyone who walks on a treadmill shuts it down on Earth Day and walk outsides? How much energy would we save if we did not spend time on any of the cardio equipment that has a Flat screen TV on them?

If the weather doesn’t cooperate for you to get off the treadmill and go outside, go to a mall, or any other community indoor walking venue. Better yet, grab a jump rope and do some interval training. (Short bursts of activity then rest)

On April 22, Positively Fit will not turn on our treadmills or any equipment that works off electricity in respect to Earth Day!

This has been an endless debate for years in the fitness industry.

At Positively Fit, we have been using primarily free weights to challenge our clients. We select exercises that are more functional. Wikipedia states, “Functional training is a classification of exercise which involves training the body for the activities performed in daily life.

Along with using Dumbbells for our “functional” exercises we utilize stability balls, medicine balls, tubing, kettle bells, cable cross overs and the TRX. All this equipment has been instrumental in helping our clients achieve their goals whether it is weight loss, becoming stronger or becoming a better athlete.

There are benefits to using machines but the research has indicated that you see greater strength gains using free weights over machines.

Pros of Machine-Based Training:

  • One of the reasons machine training is popular is the safety factor. Safety is a crucial component of any exercise program. Most people feel safer using a machine.
  • Machines usually require little or no professional assistance to use.
  • Selectize machines require no loading or unloading of weights. You only have to move a pin to change the weights.

Injuries can occur through the improper use of either a machine or free weights.

  • Machine based training is a viable option if you can afford a gym membership and cannot be taught the proper use of free weight, tubing, stability ball or any other functional type of training.

There has been a lot of attention lately to Michelle Obama’s toned arms. In the past few weeks there have been many articles written and exercises shown by trainers on how to get those arms – some good information, and some bad.

To get your arms looking like Michelle Obama’s and ready for the summer is not going to be easy!

Who said working out was easy!!

Here is a low glycemic treat that you can have in moderation. My client Richard made this last night and his family raved about it! Sugar Free Jell-O uses the artifical sweetener Aspartame so I do not recommend this on a daily basis.
Enjoy!
